“ The food was very good. The salmon chowder soup special was amazing. My roast beef was a little dry but that didn't really bother me. This is a great little place to sit down and relax. Service takes a little longer due to limited staffing, so if you are in a rush I would try another place. The staff is so pleasant and the room is cozy. If you are going for a stroll and want a bite to eat, this place is great. I have a 4 out of 5 due to slower service. ”

All the food we had was delicious, (we both picked seafood options) and the salad bar options were all delectable and from a time when everything was made fresh ingredients. “ We were recently strolling through St. Charles Historic District and came across this gem of the restaurant. Mother In Law House definitely goes all-in with the "mother in law house" feel. I found the decorations charming, but I could see how it could be hit or miss with others. They have a simple and affordable lunch menu. All of us ordered the chicken salad sandwich with the the side salad. Our server mentioned that the poppyseed dressing on the salad would change our lives. I can't say it was actually life changing but it was very good! I also enjoyed their chicken salad. Lastly, we ended the meal with their world famous coconut cream pie. Now this pie definitely lived up to the hype! This might have been the best coconut cream pie I have ever had in my life! If you happen to stroll into Mother in Law House, I would absolutely recommend saving enough space for desert so you can get a taste of this pie! VERY yummy! ”

“ Incoming cousins mid-October from southern Indiana. They wanted to tour St. Charles Main Street. AND they requested the Mother In Law House for lunch. I was not excited about this, per my last review. But I abided, and made an 11:30 reservation for 7. Upon arrival, our table was beautifully appointed and ready for our repast. Our server was delightful and handled our one-male-only group. I drank so much water, I begged him to just leave us our own water pitcher. Didn't happen. I think he liked us. My order was totally away from the froo-froo tea house sandwich concept: the 8-oz. Salt Lick Trail Burger with bacon and cheddar ($9.99). It was cooked beautifully, cheese was melted and bacon was crisp. It came with fries, but I asked for a side salad instead. With their house dressing, which was delightful. Such a wonderful lunch. Everyone loved their lunches, and it was so successful. ”

“ Nice restaurant. Came in without a reservation on the day after thanksgiving and was immediately seated. If you are looking for a trendy neon lit restaurant, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a lunch in the dining room with the feel of a mother-in-laws house, you are in luck. Leave your stuck up attitude at the door and enjoy your lunch. Don't fill up though, the deserts are fantastic. ”

“ Like the decoration and service here. Good for dating! Their lunch combo is CHEAP, even during weekend! $6.99 for a sandwich + soup in a romantic sit-down restaurant, do I need to say more? The reason why I deduct 1 star is because the table cloth was little bit dirty. And the dessert's price is almost the same as the lunch combo. ”

The cook often shows up with a pan of roasted vegetables from the oven, handing them out to every table. Fun casual dining in one of the nicer St Louis areas. Did I mention fruit and jello? ”
